Ms. Kilgore is a partner in the firm of Cuddy & McCarthy, LLP and a former shareholder of White, Koch, Kelly & McCarthy, PA. Ms. Kilgore has a strong background in federal and appellate practice, including employment and civil rights litigation and attorneys' fees issues. Ms. Kilgore graduated from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In 1979 she received a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma School of Law, was an editor on the Oklahoma Law Review from 1977-1979, and was admitted to practice in Oklahoma in 1979. Ms. Kilgore practiced law with the Oklahoma City law firm of Linn, Helms, Kirk & Burkett as an associate for almost two years. From 1981 to 1982 she worked as a law clerk to United States District Judge Ralph G. Thompson, Western District of Oklahoma and from 1982 to 1984 she was a law clerk for United States District Judge David L. Russell, Western District of Oklahoma. Ms. Kilgore was admitted to practice in New Mexico in 1986 and was an associate at White, Koch, Kelly & McCarthy, P.A. for 5 years and a partner for 18 years. Ms. Kilgore currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Opera Guild and was President of the Guild in 2003-04. Ms. Kilgore’s clerkships over four years for two federal judges provided her with a strong background in federal procedure and research and writing and exposure to a variety of cases and issues consistently dealt with by federal courts. Ms. Kilgore has extensive experience in state and federal court litigation. She has been responsible for over 50 major cases filed in federal court in New Mexico and individual cases filed in federal courts in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and California. In many of these cases she represented state agencies, counties or municipalities and officials in civil rights actions involving First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment claims and employment claims. However, she has also represented plaintiffs in these areas. She currently represents the State of New Mexico through many of its departments, including the New Mexico Environment Department, Legislative Council Service and Highlands University. In addition, Ms. Kilgore has also acted as fee counsel and/or as an expert on attorneys’ fees issues in numerous cases. In addition, Ms. Kilgore has also represented plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal court in commercial litigation involving, for example, contracts, telecommunications issues, interstate movement of cattle, trademark and copyright infringement. Ms. Kilgore has also represented several potential defendants in lengthy federal criminal investigations, including tax fraud, antitrust and Medicare fraud investigations. She has represented non-profit corporations and has provided pro bono legal representation to several non-profit organizations. Ms. Kilgore has completed the Training Program in Theory and Practice of Mediation at UNM School of Law, is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the ABA and has participated in many mediations in all areas of law. |
